Been thinking about heading down to Tassie? Let me give you four reasons to visit Tasmania…
1. The Scenery
Tasmania is absolutely beautiful. I knew it was pretty but I didn’t realise quite how pretty and quaint it would be just 10 minutes out of the city.
There are a lot of dirt roads and not that many people making you feel like you’re extra special.
Seriously how pretty is that? It was almost like stepping back in time.
2. The apples
I didn’t really know much about Tassie apples but as I drove out of Hobart, roadside apple stalls lined the road. I stopped one day for a little snack and took a bit of the crispest, sweetest Gala apple I’ve ever had.
Look at them all! The price is quite a bit different to the at least $5 a kg I pay here in Brisbane.
Good apples means amazing apple juice. I had more than one of these Cascade apple juices while I was down there.
3. The climate
Some people might find it a turn off but for a cool break or a little taste of winter when summer starts to arrive in the warmer states, Tasmania is the place to go. As Brisbane temperatures reached 30C I was warming myself by the fire in Tasmania.
4. The producers
It’s not just the apples that make Tassie special. There are so many unique little producers that you just don’t see so close to the city in Brisbane. Ok so maybe I’m not looking hard enough in Brisbane but you hardly have to turn a street to find one in or around Hobart.
I couldn’t resist a trip to Lark Distillery to check out their limited edition rum made especially for the Tall Ships Festival that was starting as I left. My rum-loving husband was rather happy with his souvenir.
In an old service station, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, I found a small chocolate shop on my way to the Bruny Island ferry. Nutpatch makes all their chocolate on site and sells in the shop and sends their chocolates all around Australia.
I got a little sample but couldn’t resist trying the Madras curry. It seriously tasted just like curry and even had a bit of a kick. The mint was my favourite.
Of course you know that I sampled a decent amount of Tasmanian cheese too. I think you could probably make a whole trip around all the cheeseries. Oh what a trip that would be.
What about you? Have you been to Tasmania? What did you like most?
